Happy 2023 I love a fresh start. And there's no better Fresh Start than a new year. And so in this mini episode, we're going to spend some time together reflecting on 2022, so that you can bring it to a close with a sense of completion. And also be proud of yourself for what you've achieved and who you've become during 2022. And then we're going to set some intentions. I'm not a fan of resolutions, but some intentions for 2023. So you can start it on the right foot. So go and grab yourself a nice cup of coffee, or a nice cup of tea, go and grab a notebook, a nice cosy armchair where you won't be disturbed, and spend an hour just thinking about what's been important to you and what you want to be important in 2023. Welcome to the influence and impact podcast for female leaders.

My name is Carla Miller, and I'm a leadership coach who helps female leaders to tackle self doubt, become brilliant influencing and make more impact at work. I've created this podcast to help you to become a more inspiring and impactful leader. And I want to become the leadership BFF. You didn't know you were missing until now.

Okay, so if you've got your notebook or your pen and paper, I'm going to share with you a series of questions. I'm just going to share them at normal pace. And what I would encourage you to do is listen to the question, write it down, and then hit pause so that you can then write your response before moving on to the next question.

Okay, so first question, what are you proud of yourself? For in 2022? What are you proud of yourself for? In 2022? Hip pause and write down your thoughts on that. Okay, now, what did you learn about yourself? In 2022? What did you learn about yourself? So you've reflected on what you're proud of yourself, for, you've reflected on what you learned about yourself. Now, finally, something about your identity and how you might have changed in 2022? Who did you become? In 2022? Who did you become? And you might want to end your reflection on 2022 by saying thank you to yourself all congratulating yourself or giving yourself a high five in the mirror like Mel Robbins does. Because it's been a big year, probably you've done a lot, you've experienced a lot, you've felt a lot, you've had challenges. You've overcome those challenges, or you've got the right mindset, and you're working through those challenges. And so we don't often take that time to sit back and reflect not only on what's happened, but on how we've dealt with it, and what we've learned about ourselves.

So take a moment to remind yourself that actually, you're pretty awesome, even if no one else is telling you that you can tell yourself that we can validate ourselves is a really healthy thing to be able to do. Okay, so when you've taken that moment, let's start thinking about 2023. So my first question for you, what do you want for yourself in your role, or in your career? In 2023? What do you want for yourself in your role or your career in 2023? And feel free to be expansive about that? Don't edit yourself, don't go oh, well, that might not be possible. This is about what you want. It's not about what's possible. It's about what do you want? Because we don't often do that thing of tuning into what we actually want, particularly as women because we're often thinking about, what do other people need? What do other people want? And our needs don't always make it to the top of the list. So it's really good practice to think what do you actually want? So unedited.

What do you want for yourself in your role or career in 2023? And now that you've answered that, you might want to apply that to your personal life as well. So this is a work based reflection, but you can absolutely apply it to life outside of work as well. So you might want to think, what else do Do you want for yourself? In 2023? Make yourself a huge list. Make this year full of possibilities and potential for yourself. Now, my next question for you, is how do you want to show up in 2023? As a person in terms of how you interact with other people, your mindset, how you approach life? How do you want to show up in 2023. So for example, I would like to be bolder. In 2023, I quite often play it small, play it safe. And I want to listen to what I teach other people in be bolder, and be bolder. In 2023, how about you? How do you want to show up? Now the next question is, are there any boundaries that you want to set or commitments that you want to make to yourself? This year? So perhaps you're used to putting everyone else first, perhaps you're quite harsh on yourself in terms of having a really focal inner critic? Who knows what you need to do? But are there any boundaries that you want to set? Or any commitments that you want to make to yourself?

And then the final question, is something I got, I think I originally got it from Eat, Pray, Love, actually, by Liz Gilbert, that this idea of having a word for a year now I'm not sure she did it for a year, I think she did it for each country, because she went to three different countries didn't she, Italy, and India and Indonesia, I think she went to.

But the idea of having a word that sums up what you want, in 2023. So it could be any word at all. It's not something you necessarily have to share with others. But it's basically saying, This is what I want this year to be about. So what is going to be your word for 2023? And that's it. That's the end of our reflection. You might want to think about how are you going to follow through on those? Do you need to put them somewhere where you can remind yourself of them?

Do you want to have a monthly check in with yourself a date with yourself, maybe you go to a nice coffee shop, or take yourself out for a nice lunch with your notebook or go and sit outside somewhere and reflect on how you're doing on those things. And if you want to adjust any of them. I think that's a really nice thing to create the space to do. And it's just again about prioritising what's important for you, what do you want to focus on? Often we spend our days being really reactive and firefighting, and so carving out some time to focus on what's important to you is a really valuable thing to do. Now, feel free to let me know, on LinkedIn, or by email, if you're on my newsletter list, you can just hit reply, what words you chose, and what you're focusing on in 2023.

I will be here to support you. I'll be here on the podcast, showing up pretty much every week, we take a break for holidays. I'm here to support you, hopefully to inspire you, to give you whatever you need to be able to succeed in the workplace, to support other women in the workplace and to close that influence gap that women experience. And if anything you put on your list is around being more confident and assertive than do check out be bolder, my four week confidence and assertiveness course for women at any level that's running throughout March this year and you can book your spot now so you can go to the website to do that. Or if this if some of your resolutions or some of your intentions were about how you're showing up as a leader and wanting to feel like a leader and lead your way then check out my influence and impact Women's Leadership Development Programme.
